Stan & Deborah Huberfeld
Stan's single focus is challenging, strengthening and building the church...not the institution, the True Church of Believers. -- Rev. Duane
Our Story
As an ordinary Jewish businessman, husband and father of two, Stan Huberfeld's call to Christian evangelism was anything but a straightforward journey. Raised in Philadelphia, PA by immigrant parents with traditional values, he is the youngest of three brothers and followed the usual path of young Jewish men, celebrating his Bar Mitzvah in 1959. His spiritual walk took a meandering path from there. Stan saw hypocrisy in the synagogue, as do many young people in organized religion, and set about carving his own path as it related to God. Much of the time that meant ignoring God. He reasoned that as long as he was a "good person," that was good enough. He maintained this philosophy throughout high school, university studies, both active duty and reserves service in the United States Army, and a good part of his business career. But because a business associate was faithful and loving, Stan came to faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior in March, 1984. Stan was married to his best friend, Deborah Davis in 1990. Both Stan and Deborah were ordained as lay pastors in 1992 and actively minister together. In 1995, their daughter Sara arrived from China to live with them and in 1997, their family was completed by the arrival of their son Jesse from Guatemala. Shortly after Jesse’s adoption, Deborah was diagnosed with later stage breast cancer. Over the past 17 years of survivorship she has actively ministered to others stricken by this disease. She has used her training as a small group facilitator at ladies’ ministry functions and as an active participant in small group fellowships. Since coming to faith Stan has had an active small group ministry with multiple congregations. These have taken the form of business person’s gatherings, couples ministries, and home fellowship groups over the years, the latter two while partnering with Deborah. These meetings often drew people from different congregations and denominations. He has authored three books since 1997 and spoken at many churches and to many Christian groups. The constant in all is an understanding of God's deep and abiding love and a desire to share the Good News in everyday life. He believes heartily in God's interest in every aspect of our lives, no matter how small, and in His desire to develop and grow a personal relationship with each of us. Stan believes it is possible for everyday people to do extraordinary things for the Kingdom by spreading the Gospel as they go about their daily lives. That is why he has launched 1Thessalonians 3:2 - Equipping Hearts to Win Souls. He is now about the business of sharpening the iron of brothers and sisters in Christ for the fulfillment of the Great Commission, "as you go," right where they are. |
